Without a doubt the biggest look for spring/summer 2011 involves colour; the bolder the better. After a winter of demure camels and wintery whites the new season colour palette is most welcome.

In New York we saw a seventies take on brash colours at DVF and Marc Jacobs, in London Burberry and Christopher Kane glowed with a splash of neon, in Milan it was all about Jil Sander’s colour-blocking and in Paris no-one did it better than the chicer than chic Nina Ricci.

This is the easiest look to wear this spring even if it takes a steely nerve to step out in an audacious yellow and purple ensemble. Keep it simple in a classic shift like this red number by Narciso Rodriguez £1,160 at Net-a-porter.com. Mix and match pieces with these blue shorts £35 at Topshop.com. Or go all out in this pleated colourblock trapeze dress £46 at Asos.com.
