So the state visit to Canada by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has turned this blog into abit of a ‘what Kate wore’ affair – but not undeservedly so. Kate Middleton’s epic fashion tour continued in Fort Levis where she chose a beautiful cream shift dress from upmarket boutique brand Joseph. She teamed the dress with nude Rupert Sanderson heels – this style and colour of footwear is fast becoming Kate’s signature.

Later, over on Prince Edward Island Kate reverted to a high fashion choice opting to wear a knitted sailor style dress by Alexander McQueen. Rather then choosing a new design created by Sarah Burton, Kate has delved in the McQueen archives choosing a number we first saw on Sarah Jessica Parker 5 years ago.

For today Kate’s choice of attire again proved to be yet another flawless choice; a long-sleeved shift dress from Danish designer – By Malene Birger. LK Bennett pumps and a cream clutch completed the look. Much can be said about Kate’s sense of style however what is particularly notable is how Kate appears to have found a sense of style that is utterly polished, occasion appropriate and so very effortlessly chic!

WHAT WAS SHE THINKING? Catherine Zeta Jones in Marchesa

Wednesday, 26 May, 2010

Catherine Zeta Jones has been out and about in New York showing off a wardrobe of Marchesa pieces. What instantly comes to mind when one says the word ‘Marchesa’ is beautiful, elegant, fairytale gowns. Not so in this case. It is very hard to go wrong with Marchesa and in Catherine’s instance it is hard to know whether to blame the wearer or the designer.

The first outing was for the Drama Desk Awards in which Catherine chose a new season Marchesa mini dress paired with Rupert Sanderson heels. The sheer top dress with it embroidered pattern conjures images of Emilio Pucci’s sexy little party dresses worn by Hollywood starlets including Kristen Stewart and Hayden Panettiere. For want of a better phrase – it is too young for her!

The second Marchesa dress is from last years fall collection. Catherine chose this dress to wear to the Chaplin Award Gala honouring her husband Michael Douglas. This strapless gown should have faired better, however the whispy overlay gives the dress entirely too much volume and does absolutely nothing for Catherines figure. What should she have chosen? Something classic from RM by Roland Mouret or Lanvin would have been perfect.

Also present at the Drama Desk Awards was Scarlett Johansson wearing a stunning strapless silk dress in a floral print from Dolce and Gabbana.
