The American Music Awards took place on Sunday night with the biggest names in music attending including Jennifer Lopez who was a big winner on the night and Justin Bieber.

Hitting up the red carpet with her boyfriend amidst those baby daddy rumours was Selena Gomez with Justin Bieber. Selena’s outfit says it all with all attention on her in a slinky silver gown by Giorgio Armani. This gown has an old school Hollywood vibe to it that looks great on Selena.

Heidi Klum attended the awards, I’m not really sure on the music connection here but she looked great. For the occasion Heidi chose a silver laser cut design dress from the new spring collection by British designer Giles.

Nicki Minaj debuted a more sophisticated look on the red carpet wearing a ball gown by Oscar De La Renta, traditionally the favourite designer of Park Avenue princesses. Nicki does Upper East Side as well as she wears quirky alternative ensembles.

Taylor Swift stuck to what she does best; sparkly princess dresses. For the AMA’s she chose a gold sequinned design by Reem Acra.

Jennifer Lopez stole the show with her medley performance that involved steadily increasing naked costume changes. For her arrival Jennifer chose a stunning black lace design by Zuhair Murad. For the after party she wowed in a silver and white feather mini dress by Emilio Pucci.

AWARDS SEASON – Who Wore What at the 2011 Emmy Awards

Tuesday, 20 September, 2011

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards took place on Sunday night in Los Angeles. The awards ceremony which celebrates the best in television attracted an impressive array of stars. But it was the Brits who cleaned up on the night with Downton Abbey winning big and Kate Winslet taking best actress.

The red carpet was an impressive sight with stars bringing out their best in what is the first big event after the summer, signalling the start of awards season. Here you’ll find a comprehensive roundup of who wore what all condensed into one giant post!

First up was Gwyneth Paltrow who definitely likes to make a statement, it’s not often you see the flash of a stomach on the red carpet but Gwyneth showed hers off with pride. Gwyneth’s design of choice was a cropped top and long skirt ensemble by Emilio Pucci. The sight of her midriff detracts somewhat from the exquisite detail of this look which is a shame.

Kate Winslet was one of the big winners of the night, taking away the best actress accolade for her role in tv-series Mildred Pierce. For the occasion Kate looked every inch the movie star in a figure hugging red gown from the resort collection by Elie Saab. The gown is simple with it’s cap-sleeves and split-neckline but stunning in a dramatic red.

Katie Holmes arrives at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 18, 2011. UPI/Jayne Kamin Oncea

Katie Holmes took to the red carpet in a simple but elegant halterneck gown by Calvin Klein. The azure blue is a stunning colour on Katie’s olive complexion and the Calvin Klein silver belt nips in the waist giving a bit of shape to the gown.

Claire Danes at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards. (Los Angeles, CA)

Claire Danes sits firmly in the best dress category for Emmy award attendees. The actress wore a strapless metallic blue gown from the resort collection by Oscar De La Renta. Metallic blue is an unusual colour to see on the red carpet, this design with it’s geometric shape pattern is particularly stunning

John Krasinski and Emily Blunt at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards. (Los Angeles, CA)

Devil Wears Prada star Emily Blunt was one of my best dressed attendees. Emily wore a midnight blue beaded gown from the fall haute couture collection by Elie Saab. The dress fits her perfectly and the plunging neckline adds an element of drama to this exquisite look.

Nina Dobrev at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards. (Los Angeles, CA)

Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev wowed in what was one of her best ever red carpet looks; a strapless gown from the resort collection by Donna Karan. She teamed the dress with a Neil Lane necklace and Judith Leiber clutch. I love her elegant side-swept hair – the perfect do for this dress.

Actors Scott Caan and Anna Paquin present an award during the 63rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 18, 2011. UPI/Jim Ruymen

True Blood star, Anna Paquin didn’t walk the red carpet but she did appear on stage to present an award. For Anna when it comes to a red carpet there is really only one designer of choice and that is Alexander McQueen. Anna wore a draped black gown with gold accents by Alexander McQueen. Accents of gold Van Cleef & Arpels set the look off perfectly.

Actors Will Arnett and Zooey Deschanel present an award during the 63rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 18, 2011. UPI/Jim Ruymen

Zooey Deschanel attended the Emmy Awards wearing a pretty strapless full skirted gown from the resort collection of Monique Lhuillier. This gown has a real high school prom feel about it with the soft pink palette and retro updo but in a typically Zooey way this works with a real quirky vibe.

Julianna Margulies at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards. (Los Angeles, CA)

Julianna Margulies made an unusual choice in red carpet gown for the Emmy’s. Julianna chose a strapless gown by Armani Prive in a bright white. White can sometimes seem a little bridal which is why it’s usually avoided at black tie events but this particularly design with it’s crystal stone detailing on the bodice and slight metallic sheen to it absolutely works.

Lea Michele arrives at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 18, 2001. UPI/Jayne Kamin Oncea

Yet another red dress, this time on Glee’s Lea Michele. Lea wore this shoulder ruffle design by Marchesa. Whilst as a dress in itself it’s perfectly nice but it doesn’t really standout especially amongst the other looks from the event. IT doesn’t look like it fits particularly well however its one redeeming feature is the cowl back.

Sarah Jessica Parker attended the New York premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as a big fan – or rather her children are – of the franchise. For the occasion Sarah Jessica chose a dress from Oscar De La Renta’s resort collection. She teamed the pretty strapless navy and blossom watercolour print chiffon gown with a black blazer by Salvatore Ferragamo. The only issue I have here is with that Ferragamo bag – it doesn’t go!

STYLE STARS – Zooey Dechanel in Oscar De La Renta at the BAFTA Brits to Watch Dinner

Zooey Deschanel wasn’t one of the biggest names on the red carpet at last night’s BAFTA dinner but her attire instantly attracted my attention. Zooey opted to wear a silk organza nude shift dress from the fall collection by Oscar De La Renta. The dress is a flawless choice; very chic (fit for a Princess indeed) and a good mid-way point between red carpet gown and premiere dress that this BAFTA dinner occasion calls for.

STYLE STARS – Emma Watson in Oscar De La Renta at the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 London Premiere

The stars of the red carpet hit the red carpet in London for the very last time – sob! The star of the franchise has always been the very lovely and increasingly fashion fabulous - Emma Watson. So for the very last foray on home turf what does Emma choose to wear?….a kind of awful dress.

Emma opted to wear a tulle embroidered bodice gown from the fall 2011 collection by Oscar De La Renta. I really wanted to love this dress but it just fails on many counts. Firstly the colour – the oyster blue/silvery combination falls flat on Emma’s pale skin and dark hair. Secondly – toilet roll cover anyone? The look Emma appears to be going for a ball gown gone edgy look however it doesn’t quite have the right vibe about it to make it work – check out Twilight’s Kristen Stewart in an Oscar De La Renta gown at the New Moon LA premiere for a much better example. My fingers are firmly crossed for the rest of this promotional tour.

STYLE STARS – Cheryl Cole in Oscar De La Renta & Diane Von Furstenberg at The X Factor USA Auditions

Monday, 9 May, 2011
Judge Cheryl Cole arrives for the first round of auditions for “The X Factor” at the Galen Center in Los Angeles on May 8, 2011. UPI/Phil McCarten

After months of speculation, Cheryl Cole was finally named as a judge on the USA version of The X Factor. She made an appearance yesterday at the Galen Center in Los Angeles as the auditions get under way. For the occasion Cheryl went for a bright ensemble wearing an orange ruffled top by Oscar De La Renta, with purple flares by Diane Von Furstenberg and a blue Burberry Prorsum waist-belt. Cheryl is going for a mix between the Studio 54/70s trend and colour-blocking, but the look seems to lack the sexiness needed to carry off the trend.

Eva Mendes attended the Academy of Motion Picture Arts tribute to Sophia Loren last night in Beverly Hills. The actress attended in a bright green silk square neck dress from the fall 2011 collection by Oscar De La Renta. A lime green and black patterned dress is a brave choice, even if your name is Eva Mendes but the 50′s vibe of this design actually makes it work.

THE MET GALA – Lea Michele in Escada, Penelope Cruz in Oscar De La Renta and Ginnifer Goodwin in Topshop

Wednesday, 4 May, 2011

Glee’s golden girl, Lea Michele attended the Met Gala held on Monday evening. Lea went for a bright red custom made number by Escada. This isn’t a bad dress but when you wear a full length ball gown in the evocative colour of red, its got to be a pretty spectacular dress.

Penelope Cruz also attended the ball. For Penelope a classic black silk organza tiered gown from the upcoming fall collection by Oscar De La Renta. Penelope isn’t going to win any awards for this look but sometimes, when the event is as big as the Met ball, playing it safe might be the sensible option.

Actress Ginnifer Goodwin also attended the event, Ginnifer surprised by not picking a high fashion look like many of her fellow attendees. Instead Ginnifer went for a dress by British high street favourite Topshop. Don’t get too excited, it’s not your average off the rack Topshop, it’s a custom made design by Topshop Unique. The colour is great and the twist front detailing is just the right amount of sexy.

Alexis Bledel has been on a fashion fest for the last week. The Gilmore Girls star is busy promoting her new movie directed by Robert Redford, The Conspirator. On Sunday she appeared at the Washington premiere in a simple longsleeved dress from the pre-fall collection by Stella McCartney. A pair of gold Alejandro Inglemo sandals dress up the look.

On Monday Alexis appeared in New York for the red carpet premiere. For this occasion she went for a dressier look in an embroidered cap-sleeved gown from the pre-fall collection by Oscar De La Renta. The dress (as with most ODLR designs) is exquisite and the addition of black Giuseppe Zanotti sandals are the perfect accessories.
