AWARDS SEASON – Who Wore What at the 18th Annual SAG Awards

Monday, 30 January, 2012
Lea Michelle at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

The 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place last night in Los Angeles as awards season is now in full swing. The SAG awards is another of the big red carpet awards shows in the run-up to the Academy Awards later next month.

Here is a roundup of who wore what at the 2012 SAG awards:

It’s not very often I can say this but last night, Lea Michele was one of my best dressed attendees. Lea got it exactly right in a champagne coloured bandage dress from the fall 2010 couture collection by Atelier Versace. A thigh length split added the perfect mix of drama and sex appeal and Lea perfectly complimented the dress with silver Casadei pumps.

Tilda Swinton at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Tilda Swinton is known for her at times unusual outfit choices. However on this occasion she chose a chic long-sleeved white gown from the resort collection by Lanvin.

Emily Blunt at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Emily Blunt chose a lack-lustre green design from the resort collection by Oscar De La Renta. The dress is a nice design but the shade of green doesn’t quite work for Emily.

Angelina Jolie at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Angelina Jolie stuck to her tried and tested black dress formula in a draped neckline dress from the fall collection by British designer Jenny Packham.

Emma Stone at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Emma Stone shunned the full-length dress code in favour of a quirky midi-length black strapless design from the pre-fall collection by Alexander McQueen.

Zoe Saldana at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Zoe Saldana was one of my best dressed at the event, Zoe looked stunning in a white embroidered design from the new spring 2012 haute couture collection by Givenchy.

Michelle Williams at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Michelle Williams looked pretty in a red lace embroidered gown by Valentino. The only issue here is that appears to be a little ill-fitting on Michelle’s slender figure.

Amber Heard at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Amber Heard oozed glamour in a black cut-out detail gown by Zac Posen.

Rose Byrne at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Rose Byrne also went for something a little different in a stunning white embellished jumpsuit from the fall 2009 haute couture collection by Elie Saab.

Julianna Margulies at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Julianna Margulies went for a glamorous look in a white heavily embellished strapless gown by Calvin Klein.

Jessica Chastain at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Jessica Chastain also chose Calvin Klein in a sharp cut classic blue design.

The Critics Choice Awards took place earlier this week in Hollywood with an impressive guestlist from Hollywood’s elite.

Michelle Williams went for a classically elegant look in a monochrome design from the resort 2012 collection by Chanel. Occasionally I think Chanel can age its wearer but this is a great look on Michelle.

Actress Diane Kruger arrives for the 17th annual Critics Choice Movie Awards at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on January 12, 2012. UPI/Jim Ruymen

Diane Kruger is my best dressed of this event in a beautiful lavender and yellow silk dress by Prada.

Chloe Moretz got it a little wrong in a puff-sleeved black dress from the fall collection by Chanel. This isn’t pretty enough on Chloe and comes off just too hard.

Nina Dobrev went for a retro style look in a fifties floral print prom dress by Monique Lhuillier from last year’s spring collection.

Jessica Alba looked sleek in a ruched leather dress with sheer black panel arms from the new spring collection by Valentino. I shouldn’t like this look but somehow it works.

The 23rd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala took place this weekend in Palm Springs, California. The glamorous event is one of the more popular red carpet in the run-up to awards season which starts next weekend with the first of the big ceremonies, The Golden Globes.

Up first on the red carpet was Olivia Wilde. Olivia played it safe in a figure hugging black tank dress from the spring collection by Monique Lhuillier. The dress is jazzed up with the addition of opaque lace inserts on the side.

STYLE STARS – Who Wore What at the Hollywood Film Awards

Thursday, 27 October, 2011
Michelle Williams at the15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala. (Hollywood, CA)

The 15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala took place this week in LA. The glitzy ceremony attracted an impressive guestlist of Hollywood’s elite.

Michelle Williams who is currently promoting her new film in which she plays Marilyn Monroe, took to the red carpet for the awards. Michelle chose a black strapless chiffon gown from the new spring collection by Nina Ricci. What you can’t see in this picture that gives the dress that added bit of drama is the sheer layers of the bottom of the dress.

Carey Mulligan at the15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala. (Hollywood, CA)

Carey Mulligan made an appearance at the awards. For Carey a simple but chic halterneck dress with tasselled detail from the new spring collection by Bottega Veneta. Carey teamed the look with a belt to add some definition and an elegant clutch bag also by Bottega Veneta.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley at the15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala. (Hollywood, CA)

Girl of the moment Rosie Huntington-Whiteley attended the event. Rosie opted to wear a sequin embroidered dress from the fall collection by Emilio Pucci. The high neckline and low hemlength make for a surprisingly demure choice of ensemble for Rosie. She teams the dress with black Christian Louboutin pumps.

Elle Fanning at the15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala. (Hollywood, CA)

A 13 year old Elle Fanning was another celeb hitting the red carpet. Elle showed off her love of fashion in a pretty laser cut floor-length gown from the new spring collection of Valentino. The nice thing about Elle’s style is that she doesn’t try and dress older than she is; minimal makeup, a girlie hairdo and flat sandals complete the look.

Emma Stone at the15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala. (Hollywood, CA)

Saving the best for last, Emma Stone was my best dressed celeb at the awards. Emma wore a cream sheer layered pleated dress from the new spring collection by British designer Jonathan Saunders. This is a beautiful dress on Emma, very girlie but still stylish with it midi-length hemline. Emma perfectly compliments the dress with feminine ribbon tie sandals by Christian Dior.

Christina Ricci was one of my best dressed attendees at last night’s Costume Institute Gala. The actress attended on the arm of the designer Zac Posen so was of course dressed in a creation by the designer. Christina wowed in a custom made high necked black tulle layered gown. The sheer detailing adds a little of the Zac Posen sex appeal with the mermaid layered bottom making the design a complete show stopper!

Amy Adams attended the ball wearing a dusky pink and black embroidered sequin gown from the new fall collection by L’Wren Scott. The dress features a pretty design and is a very flattering style on Amy.

Also in attendance Michelle Williams. Michelle can be abit of a hit or miss and on this occasion it was an unfortunate miss. Michelle went for a rather unflattering shapeless silk tunic gown with silver embroidered swallow design by Miu Miu.

Michelle Williams can be a little hit and miss on the red carpet (remember that flowery Valentino at the Golden Globes). However at tonight’s Oscars I’m very pleased to say she absolutely killed it! Michelle who is nominated for her role in Blue Valentine wowed in a white pearl embellished dress by Chanel. Everything about it is stunning, the white palette, sheer detailing and Michelle’s elfin looks create an amazing ethereal effect. One of my best dressed of the night!

AWARDS SEASON – Who Wore What at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon

The nominees luncheon for the 83rd annual Academy Awards took place yesterday in Beverly Hills. With a mere few weeks to go until the biggest day in the showbiz calender it provides a chance for those lucky few nominees to win a few last minute votes.

Yesterday’s lunch attracted the A-list from The King’s Speech’s Colin Firth to Black Swan’s Natalie Portman. On the fashion front it’s an opportunity for the stars to bring out their best smart dress before the black tie gowns come out in force. Amy Adams who is nominated in the best supporting actress category for her role in The Fighter looked chic in a pretty white dress from the new spring collection by Valentino teamed with gold pumps by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Natalie Portman, best actress nominee for her role in “Black Swan”, attends the nominees luncheon for the 83rd annual Academy Awards in Beverly Hills, California February 7, 2011. REUTERS/Mario Anzuoni (UNITED STATES – Tags: ENTERTAINMENT)

The odds on favourite to win best actress, Natalie Portman demonstrates how to dress a baby bump with elegance in glamour in a blue kimono dress by Lanvin teamed with a ruby red Christian Dior clutch bag and matching shoes. Nicole Kidman went for a more high fashion look in a printed chiffon dress from the new spring collection by Yves Saint Laurent. Whilst I don’t dislike this look I can’t help but think it ages Nicole.

Finally Michelle Williams who is also nominated in the best actress category for her role in Blue Valentine went for a ladylike look in a monochrome ensemble of tweed skirt and silk blouse from the new spring collection by Chanel with black pumps by Sergio Rossi. Michelle has been a little disappointing on the red carpet of late with a rather disastrous Valentino dress at the Golden Globes, let’s hope she’s saving something special for the Academy Awards.
