The re-opening of the Chanel boutique in Soho, New York sounds like a recipe for a fashion frenzy right? Well kinda….Karl Lagerfeld was on hand to see his new store open with the usual array of celebrity friends. Unfortunately fashion sense seems to have forsaken these Chanel clad attendees.

Diane Kruger is very pally with Karl and frequently wears Chanel. For this occasion she chose a design from the arctic inspired fall collection, a ruffled dress with a corset thrown in for good measure. Liv Tyler made an appearance in a black trouser/top combination that could have been forgiven had it not been for the black and white brogues that belong at a bowling alley.

Blake Lively also attended, she was spotted front row at the fall couture show and wore a design from that show. Unfortunately it resembles a seventies disco outfit (and not in a cool Studio 54 way).

Stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe is the one of the few celeb attendee who actually manages to look ok in a chic monochrome ensemble. New York’s most famous resident Sarah Jessica Parker showed up for the event in an odd ensemble of a pink and black dress from the resort collection with a Chanel jacket thrown in for good measure (it’s Carrie Bradshaw we can forgive).  

 

Best look of the night goes to Leighton Meester who kept it simple in a chic Chanel LBD jazzed up with a statement necklace. Fellow celebs should take note from Leighton’s look, less can sometimes mean more.

Britain’s own Alexa Chung made an appearance in a monochrome shift dress from the resort collection (a similar design has been worn by Blake Lively). Finally Rachel Bilson took on a cute tweed fringed look from the fall collection.
