The much anticipated finale of the X Factor took place at the weekend with the series favourite Matt Cardle walking away the winner. As watched as the show itself has been the epic fash-off between the two ultra glam female judges Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue.
For Sunday’s finale night following a run of covetable dresses including designs by Zuhair Murad, Azzaro, Gianfranco Ferre and Emilio Pucci, Cheryl stepped out in a red halterneck mermaid design from the fall collection by J.Mendel. Cheryl got everything about this look right, from the vibrant colour palette to the sleek updo and flawless makeup.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this gown; American actress Malin Akerman wore the gown to the Toronto Film Festival last month. Who wore the look better? Malin and Cheryl both wear the statement gown well, keeping the rest of the look to a minimum and letting the fab dress take centre stage.

Leanne Rimes was pictured taping the CMA Country Christmas in Nashville earlier this week in a stunning bronze gown with draped scarf detail easily recognisable as one of Alexander Wang’s designs.
Demi Lovato wore the same dress in black earlier last month at a press conference in LA to announce the nominations for the American Music Awards. Who wore the design better? Both look pretty great (a testament to a fab dress), with Leanne toughing her look up with peeptoe boots while Demi goes for a more girly look in Christian Louboutin heels.

Daisy Lowe attended the International Herald Tribune Heritage Luxury Conference yesterday in London wearing a black leather strapless dress from the fall collection by Christian Dior. Marion Cotillard has also worn this design, last month for the Les Petits Mouchoirs premiere in Paris.
I didn’t like this dress when I saw it on the runway, on Marion Cotillard or on Daisy Lowe. With leather dresses less is generally more, minimalist shapes and simple lines work best or the look can easily stray into costume/sex shop territory. If I had to pick who wore it better, it would have to be Daisy…… at least the black blazer covers some of it.

Isla Fisher attended the London premiere of her new movie Burke and Hare last night in Leicester Square. The former Home & Away actress turned Hollywood star wore a red lace strapless dress from the fall collection of Dolce & Gabbana, a daring choice for Isla who has only recently had a baby.
This isn’t the first time we have seen this lacy number from the legendary Italian house. Juliette Lewis wore the design to the New York premiere of Conviction just two week ago. So who wore the dress better? Isla’s curves are probably more what Dolce & Gabbana had in mind for this number but the jacket and tights let the look down, Juliette’s low key look for the statement dress may just clinch it.

Victoria Beckham’s dresses are certainly doing the rounds. It isn’t very often that celebrities will wear a dress once it has been worn before but that doesn’t seem to be the case with Victoria Beckham’s designs.
Eva Longoria is the latest celeb to sport this nude design from the fall collection of her good friend Victoria Beckham. She wore the design to the launch of her new perfume in London yesterday.
Gossip Girl star and fashion favourite Leighton Meester was spotted on set wearing the champagne coloured shift dress design just last week. That’s not forgetting that the dress has of course already been worn by VB herself at the launch of the new RangeRover Evoque.
Who wears it better? The dress translates so well to each of these ladies (surely a testament to VB’s skills) we’ll call it a draw!

Leighton Meester was out and about in New York again yesterday, filming for the new season of Gossip Girl. Her latest look a grey high-waisted polka dot skirt from the fall collection of American designer Alice + Olivia.
It is the second time in a week we have seen this skirt, first worn by 90210’s Jessica Lowndes to the BAFTA TV party in LA last week.
But who wears it better? Jessica keeps it simple pairing it with a black tank top and Sergio Rossi pumps whilst Leighton’s look is a little more high fashion, in a Marc by Marc Jacobs embroidered top and grey shoe boots.

Some dresses have an almost magnetic appeal to the female celebrity, think Roland Mouret’s Galaxy or Herve Leger’s bandage dresses. The latest number to hit the celebrity circuit is Alexander McQueen’s angular shouldered crepe dress.
First seen in purple on the Spice Girl’s Emma Bunton. Then the sultry actress Salma Hayek chose the very same number for an appearance on David Letterman and than just this weekend Anna Paquin chose a black version for an Emmys afterparty!

What’s not to love about this little number? Capped shoulders to compliment arms, a v-neck to show off a bust and wrap detailing to emphasise waist and minimise hips. The purple version is available to buy right now at Net-a-porter and will set you back £1,245.

Anna Paquin attended the Entertainment Weekly and Women In Film Pre-Emmy party last night in LA. The newly married True Blood star looked loved up as she posed alongside husband and co-star Stephen Moyer.
For the event Anna chose a red asymmetric dress from the fall collection at Preen. She teamed the dress with black pumps. Red dresses are a popular item on celebrity shopping lists right now and are a fail safe way to ensure the camera clicks are in your direction.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this Preen dress. Scarlett Johansson chose to wear a yellow version of the design at the Spike TV awards earlier this year. Scarlett’s version of the dress is available to buy now at Net-a-porter for £670.
Who has the edge in this pretty Preen number? Great dress in fab colours, we’ll call it a draw.

The world has gone crazy for Dolce and Gabbana’s leopard print (expect to hear a lot a lot more on this)! The latest high profile outing of the super stylish animal print came with Serena Williams last night who was hosting the Hampton’s Magazine Cover party. Serena chose the leopard print mini dress from the fall collection at Dolce and Gabbana for the event.
We first saw a yellower version of this dress on Katy Perry back in June who wore the design whilst out and about in New York. Who wears it best? It is a tiny dress and probably better suited to Katy’s petite figure over Serena’s more athletic body.
