The awards ceremony is not the only hot ticket in town for Oscar night, the Vanity Fair Oscar party is the ticket of the town for a-listers who didn’t make it to ceremony and those wanting to carry on the festivities after the awards.

David and Victoria Beckham made an appearance at the party, Victoria chose an elegant cream belted strapless dress from her new autumn/winter collection.

Elizabeth Banks was one of my best dressed at the party, she looked stunning in a green and blue peacock design dress by Chadwick Bell.

Jennifer Lopez switched out of her earlier dress in favour of this plunging neckline bronze dress also by Zuhair Murad.

Miley Cyrus attended the party, she chose a pretty look in a light lavender long-sleeved gown with tulle hem by Roberto Cavalli.

Katie Holmes took to the red carpet with husband Tom Cruise sporting a new fringe. Katie wore a strapless midnight blue silk layered gown from last year’s fall haute couture collection by Elie Saab.

Zoe Saldana made an appearance at the party, Zoe looked chic in a black sheer structured gown from the new fall collection by Marios Schwab.

Rosie Huntington Whiteley wowed in a red form fitting dress from the spring collection by Antonio Berardi.

Cameron Diaz had a change of dress, this one I prefer to her Gucci ceremony gown. The orange floor-length dress is a Victoria Beckham design.

Emma Stone also changed up opting for an elegant black Chanel creation for the after-party.

Kate Bosworth eschewed the black tie dress code in favour of black Prabal Gurung design.

The 84th Academy Awards took place at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles last night with the usual star studded guest list. It’s THE event of the year to impress on the red carpet and this year had it’s fair share of jaw-dropping moments.

Here is a round-up of who wore what at the 85th Academy Awards:

My best dressed of the night is awarded to Rooney Mara. The star of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has come a long way in the past year and following a dazzling array of red carpet outfits for the promotional tour of the movie she has firmly placed herself in the best dressed lists. For the Oscars she chose a beautiful white design from couture archives of Givenchy. This particular look comes from autumn/winter 2009.

Rose Byrne is my number 2 on the best dressed list. She wowed in a black sequin creation by Vivienne Westwood, what you can’t see here is the back of the dress which leaves the back completely bare – an easy way to add an edge to a red carpet look.

Gwyneth Paltrow went to Tom Ford for her Oscars look so of course makes it into my top 5. He fitted her out in a white slim-line gown complete with cape which manages to look so chic and exactly right for the Academy Awards without any superhero connotations.

Michelle Williams chose a bright coral orange design with peplum detail custom made for her by Yves Saint Laurent. The layered tulle silk design is an amazing colour on Michelle and the bright shade ensures it doesn’t end up being too girly.

Milla Jovovich was one of the first stars to hit the red carpet and it’s always great when a jaw-dropping look emerges early on. Milla stunned in a white heavily embroidered design from fall/winter 2009 couture collection by Elie Saab. She went for old school Hollywood for her hair and makeup and looks every inch the movie star.

Emma Stone always likes to mix things up and wear something a little bit different. For this occasion she chose a red halterneck bow detail design from the new spring haute couture collection by Giambattista Valli. I love this look on Emma and I’m glad she kept things quirky with the oversized bow.

Angelina Jolie stuck to her favoured colour black in a strapless velvet ball gown by Atelier Versace. The only feature of this dress that stops it being a little boring is the thigh high split which Angelina knows exactly how to work to to its best advantage.

Natalie Portman made a return to the Academy Awards wearing a red strapless ball gown from the archives at Christian Dior, this particular polka dot look dates back to spring/summer 1954.

Octavia Spencer stayed loyal to her awards season designer of choice Tadashi Shoji, as a result she was rewarded with a stunning embroidered gown gathered at the waist for optimal sliming effect.

Jennifer Lopez brought the glamour in a low-cut long-sleeved silvery white design by Zuhair Murad. Jennifer is always one of my favourites on the red carpet, she’s never going to give us anything boring or remotely understated.

Cameron Diaz was a presenter at the ceremony and she chose a white strapless dress with ruffled bottom detail by Gucci. This look is ok but doesn’t really stand up against the other red carpet look as anything particularly special.

Penelope Cruz went for full on glamour in a beautiful dusky lavender ball gown by Giorgio Armani. This is a timeless, elegant look, you could transport Penelope to any awards ceremony for the past 70 years and her look would still be perfect.

Meryl Streep who took away the coveted best actress award shone in a bright gold draped gown created for her by Lanvin. The shade of gold is a brave choice as is the plunging neckline but Meryl pulls it off with grace.

Shailene Woodley went for a slightly unusual choice of dress for the Academy Awards. The young actress chose a haute couture creation from the spring 2012 collection by Valentino. The dress is beautiful and demure but perhaps a little too understated for the Academy Awards.

Kristen Wiig the star and writer of Bridesmaids chose a strapless nude design by Alberta Ferretti. This is a pretty look however the colour is a little odd.

Tina Fey looked chic in a strapless peplum dress custom made for her by Carolina Herrera. The dress is typically Carolina Herrera; elegant and stylish.

Sandra Bullock chose a look in the timeless monochrome colour combination. The draped embroidered gown is by Marchesa.

Finally Jessica Chastain chose a strapless black embroidered design custom made for her by Alexander McQueen. I don’t hate this look but I think the heavy embroidery is a little scary on the front of the dress and something a little plainer would have been preferable.

In the run-up to tonight’s Academy Awards, Hollywood’s A-list turned out in force for the Film Independent Spirit Awards which took place in Santa Monica last night. The occasion is a much less formal one than of the big event tonight and the red carpet dress code reflected this.

Twilight star Anna Kendrick attended the event wearing a patterned strapless dress from the new pre-fall collection by McQ. She teamed the look with an amazing pair of Brian Atwood sandals.

Michelle Williams chose a boyish look that was in stark contrast to her much girlier appearances. Michelle chose a short suit look from the pre-fall collection by Louis Vuitton teamed with her favourite quirky accessories label of choice Olympia Le-Tan.

Kate Beckinsale chose a seventies inspired outfit in a purple jumpsuit from the new fall collection by Diane Von Furstenberg teamed with Christian Louboutin heels. Jumpsuits aren’t easy to wear and this isn’t the most hideous attempt I’ve ever seen.

Lucy Liu looked chic in a monochrome tiered design by Roberto Cavalli. She teamed the dress with Giuseppe Zanotti wedges.

Zoe Saldana showed off her svelte figure in a pretty floral mini-dress from the spring 2012 collection by Balmain teamed with nude Brian Atwood pumps.

Finally Kirsten Dunst was my best dressed as this event, she chose a sexy black mini-dress by Dolce & Gabbana and teamed it with a white tuxedo jacket for an effortlessly stylish look.

Jennifer Aniston received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in LA yesterday. The Friends actress looked radiant in a floral midi-length dress from the resort collection by Chanel. She teamed the pretty floral dress with nude sandals by Bally.

The Brit Awards took place earlier this week at the O2 arena in London. The awards ceremony is Britain’s biggest night in music and a host of stars turned up at the event including the big winners of the night Adele, Ed Shereen and Lana Del Rey.

Lana Del Ray wowed in a red off the shoulder design by British designer Vivienne Westwood.

Nicole Scherzinger attended the event wearing a yellow strapless dress from the new spring collection by Versace.

Kylie Minogue chose a bright blue strapless gathered gown by Yves Saint Laurent accessorised with a plentiful amount of diamonds.

Rihanna chose a bronze gold deep v-neck dress from the new spring haute couture collection by Givenchy. The addition of long black leather gloves spoils this look a little.

Jessie J chose a red sheer embroidered gown by Falguni and Shane Peacock.

Adele, the woman of the evening, chose a pretty black sheer panelled floor-length gown by Burberry.

Jennifer Aniston and Malin Akerman attended the premiere of their new movie Wanderlust in LA yesterday. Jennifer looked chic in a strapless black and white peplum detail dress from the new spring collection by Tom Ford. Malin Akerman is known for being slightly risque in the fashion stakes, on this occasion she got it slightly wrong in this red and pink design from the fall collection by Sonia Rykiel.

The Grammys took place at the weekend with British singer Adele taking away more than her fair share of awards and making a return to the stage following a brief break. The red carpet was more subdued than usual owing to the sombre mood following the sad death of Whitney Houston.

Katy Perry made a dazzling appearance in a blue embellished gown by Elie Saab couture.

Kate Beckinsale made an appearance opting to go for something short and flirty rather than her usual more demure outfits in a cream look by Zuhair Murad.

Actress Malin Akerman looked stunning in a white key hole detail dress by Cushnie Et Ochs.

Taylor Swift went for a dramatic look in a regal gold embroidered gown by Zuhair Murad.

Rihanna oozed sex appeal in a gorgeous low-neck and high split black dress custom made for her by Giorgio Armani.

Alicia Keys went for a classic black dress by Alexandre Vauthier couture perfectly accessorised by an oversized necklace.

Kelly Rowland chose a pretty embroidered top design with light pink skirt by Alberta Ferretti.

Fergie got it slightly wrong in a red lace dress with on-show black under from the couture collection by Jean Paul Gaultier.

The Orange British Academy Film Awards took place last night in Covent Garden, London. The awards ceremony is the British version of the Oscars and usually serves as a good indication for who will be awarded the coveted prizes. Silent film The Artist was the big winner on the night, taking away 7 awards.

Penelope Cruz attended the event opting to wear a red strapless dress by Armani Prive. The couture creation that features a sharp cut bust line and a ruffle at the waist is a pretty look but doesn’t quite have the wow factor that Penelope’s outfits usually sport.

Christina Ricci wowed in a gold v-neck design by Givenchy. The low-neckline and the thigh split gives the dress a sexy edge.

Star of new comedy film Bridesmaids, Kristen Wiig made an impressive BAFTA red carpet debut in a white silk strapless dress with ruched waist from Alberta Ferretti.

Jessica Chastain chose a gold lame pleated gown from the pre-fall collection by Oscar De La Renta. This isn’t a terribly flattering dress on Jessica but the light gold palette is a nice shade.

Christina Hendricks stunned in a black bustier dress design by Vivienne Westwood. The dress is a great look that nicely fits her curves.

Tilda Swinton was the epitome of elegance in a white cap-sleeved gown from the pre-fall collection by Celine.

Keira Knightely made an appearance for the London premiere of her new movie A Dangerous Method at the Mayfair Hotel last week. For the occasion Keira opted to wear a floor-length burgundy gown from the new pre-fall collection by Burberry Prorsum. The chic gown shows off Keira’s slender figure and the black belt nicely breaks up the block colour.

Rachel McAdams attended the Hollywood premiere of her new movie, The Vow last night. The Notebook actress chose a strapless ruched bustline dress by Vivienne Westwood. This isn’t a bad dress but unfortunately it’s not a great colour. The trend for pastels this season needs to be approached with caution especially by someone as fair-skinned and light-haired as Rachel so as not to end up looking washed out! Nude Christian Louboutin pumps are a perfect footwear match for this look.
