The 23rd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala took place this weekend in Palm Springs, California. The glamorous event is one of the more popular red carpet in the run-up to awards season which starts next weekend with the first of the big ceremonies, The Golden Globes.

Up first on the red carpet was Olivia Wilde. Olivia played it safe in a figure hugging black tank dress from the spring collection by Monique Lhuillier. The dress is jazzed up with the addition of opaque lace inserts on the side.

Charlize Theron chose a shift dress from the new spring collection by Lanvin. This dress looks pretty ordinary other than the killer split up the side.

Newcomer Jessica Chastain looked chic in a high shine metallic green v-neck dress from the pre-fall collection by Prabal Gurung.

Angelina Jolie made an appearance on the red carpet with long-term partner Brad Pitt. Angelina went for a look that was a departure from her preferred colour of black in a cream pleated wide-leg (not entirely flattering) jumpsuit from the spring collection by Elie Saab.

Michelle Williams wowed in a pretty nude embellished Miu Miu dress. The champagne look was teamed with a pair of Prada sandals.

Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made an appearance at the London premiere of War Horse, held earlier this evening in Leicester Square. Kate Middleton wowed in a black lace overlay dress, custom made for her by Alice Temperley. With a modest neckline and a black velvet waist band that emphasises Kate’s slender figure the look is classic and refined yet stylish and modern.

Rooney Mara has been on a whirlwind promotional tour for the release of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Whilst Rooney was relatively unknown before, her other notable role being Mark Zuckerberg’s love interest in The Social Network, she sure has hit the big time.

Rooney has in a few weeks proved herself a style icon to be reckoned with after a string of impressive red carpet appearances. Most recently she appeared today in Berlin in a stylish ensemble from the new spring collection by Miu Miu. The mid-drift bearing brings a high fashion edge to this look.

In New York, Rooney went for New York Fashion Week favourite, Prabal Gurung. There’s nothing boring about this little black dress with it’s structured shapes and cutaway edges.

Finally Rooney proved she could do pretty at the London Leicester Square premiere in a stunning white gown by Givenchy Couture.
