Claire Danes picked up the best actress award in a tv drama at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Claire who won for her role in Temple Grandin went for a fashion forward look on the red carpet. Claire wore a flower appliqué strapless gown from the resort collection by Louis Vuitton. Normally I don’t approve of patterned gowns on the red carpet but the simple palette and black belt brings this look together.

If you haven’t heard of Sofia Vergara yet then now is as good a time as any to find out. Sofia Vergara is a Columbian model and actress who burst onto the American celebrity scene following her role in the critically acclaimed sitcom Modern Family.
On the red carpet Sofia has been making waves showing off her enviable curves. At last night’s Screen Actors Guild awards she wowed in a blue plunge neck-line ruched gown by Roberto Cavalli. To the Golden Globes earlier this month she showed off a softer side in strapless fuchsia Vera Wang gown.

Eva Longoria was one of my best dressed celebrities at the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Desperate Housewives star wore an ivory low v-neck gown from the new spring collection by Georges Hobeika Couture. The revealing nature of this gown could have made it a little too much but the beautiful pleating and drapes make it a stunning gown.

I’m not Lea Michele’s biggest fashion fan, I find her red carpet choices either a little try-hard or just obvious but at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards she surprised me. Lea looked stunning in a low neck beaded blush gown from the new spring collection by her favourite designer; Oscar De La Renta. I love everything about this look from the elegant belted waist to Lea’s artfully tousled hair.

Nicole Kidman showed of a more sultry side on the red carpet at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. The best actress nominee went for a chic navy velvet and lace gown from the pre-fall collection by Nina Ricci. What you can’t see is a daring lace back detail, making a vast improvement from the shiny white Prada gown worn to the Golden Globes.

Mila Kunis is one of my new favourite red carpet stars. At the Golden Globes she glowed in an emerald green Vera Wang gown and for last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards she went for a high fashion choice in Alexander McQueen. The strapless printed bustier dress from Alexander McQueen’s resort 2011 collection has the perfect red carpet mix of drama and femininity.

Natalie Portman is riding high on the back of a string of best actress awards for her performance in Black Swan. Last night the Screen Actors Guild Awards took place in Los Angeles. Natalie was in attendance to pick up her award along with an increasingly visible baby bump. Natalie demonstrates the art of dressing a baby bump in a simple white gown by Azzaro teamed with a Roger Vivier clutch. Earlier last week Natalie sported another chic look in a black halterneck dress by Michael Kors.

Without a doubt the biggest look for spring/summer 2011 involves colour; the bolder the better. After a winter of demure camels and wintery whites the new season colour palette is most welcome.
In New York we saw a seventies take on brash colours at DVF and Marc Jacobs, in London Burberry and Christopher Kane glowed with a splash of neon, in Milan it was all about Jil Sander’s colour-blocking and in Paris no-one did it better than the chicer than chic Nina Ricci.
This is the easiest look to wear this spring even if it takes a steely nerve to step out in an audacious yellow and purple ensemble. Elie Saab is a name to anyone in the fashion know that is synonymous with eveningwear more opulent and exquisite than you will find this side of your imagination. The spring 2011 haute couture collection was presented today in Paris with the emblematic Elie Saab assortment of chiffon, lace and embroidery.
Character and fragility were the defining words of this collection and it did indeed provide that. Delicate layers of lace and tulle defined with cinched waists and embellished with ribbons and embroidery. Looks came in powdery spring shades ranging from light lavenders and fresh greens to the more heady mix of reds and blacks.
The discerning Elie Saab couture customer will not be disappointed with this collection offering the usual mix of luxurious craftsmanship with beautifully feminine design.
