Kate Middleton is undoubtedly the world’s most watched women in the style stakes. Since announcing her engagement to Prince William the fashion world has gone crazy for her elegant style.
First came the royal blue Issa dress (which has sparked an avalanche of high street homage’s). Then came the white Reiss dress and Whistles jacket look for the official engagement photo shot by Mario Testino.
Now we have a new look to lust after; Kate accompanied Prince William on a visit to Norfolk wearing a monochrome design by British favourite Temperley London. The Titan dress, paired effortlessly with a black blazer, comes from the fall 2009 collection.
If it wasn’t already established that winter white is THE colour to be wearing right now by the steady flow of red carpet dresses worn by celebrities around the world, then the appearance of the chicest new member of the royal family wearing it will certainly persuade you.

The LA premiere of the remake of the classic adventure movie Gulliver’s Travels took place in LA last night. The film’s cast including Jack Black and Emily Blunt hit the red carpet to promote their latest endeavour.
Emily Blunt made her name as the witty assistant in The Devil Wears Prada but has always been a leading lady in the style stakes. For this occasion Emily went for a colourful look in a bright blue and nude one shoulder dress from the fall collection by Roksanda Ilincic. This is a chic look but a little summery for December. Nude Jimmy Choo Private sandals complete the look.
Angelina Jolie’s red carpet looks seem to go one of two ways; drop dead gorgeous (the white Atelier Versace worn at the New York premiere) or completely underwhelming (the L’Agence look for the Paris premiere). Her appearance last night at the Madrid premiere falls in the latter category.
Angelina attended the premiere alongside her newest red carpet accessory (Brad Pitt) wearing a Swarovski crystal encrusted camisole top teamed with an Atelier Versace velvet ball gown skirt. Has she raided a dressing up box somewhere and forgotten to look in a mirror? This look is terrible, right from the boob bearing sparkly top to the unflattering skirt and shrug ensemble.
Judging from the red carpets we’ve seen in the last few weeks there’s only one colour to be wearing this winter; white. In the past week alone we’ve seen Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, Michelle Williams, Cheryl Cole, Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning and Jessica Alba sporting their brightest whites.
White is the easiest of colours to wear for all skin tones, for paler palettes take a tip from Kirsten Dunst who brightens up her Chanel gown with a slick of red lips. Steer clear of the temptation to break out the St Tropez unless your after a role as an extra in The Only Way is Essex.
White dresses are best worn loose and floaty like Lara Stone’s Calvin Klein number, but if you want something more fitting go for a structured look like Beyonce’s Antonio Berardi design…never skin tight. Keep your neckline high and your hemline short, if you want to flash the flesh make it a statement back a la Gwyneth Paltrow in Emilio Pucci. As for accessories there’s no easier colour to complement, wear black for a timeless monochrome or jazz up with something brighter.
Here is my pick of winter white dresses to suit your budget:
The Olsen’s have come up with the most elegant white dress for your wardrobe; The Row Marina silk- crepe dress £490 at Net-a-porter.com. The belt gives a little shape and the pleats are tres chic; Theory cream Giorgina Micro Pleated Belted Dress £338 at My-wardrobe.com. The most forgiving of designs for all body shapes; Topshop chiffon cape dress £46 at Topshop.com.
Angelina Jolie made another appearance on the red carpet for the promotional tour of her new film The Tourist. This time she attended the Rome premiere alongside her boyfriend Brad Pitt and co-star Johnny Depp.
Her choice of attire was rather dull; a Salvatore Ferragamo blazer teamed with satin trousers in her favourite palette of black. Perhaps Angelina’s gotten bored of dressing for red carpet events, this look certainly has no place on a Hollywood superstar at an international film premiere.
The New York premiere of the third Meet the Fockers movie, Little Fockers, took place last night. The film’s stars including Robert DeNiro, Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman and Jessica Alba turned out for the event.
Jessica Alba was the belle of the ball in a white strapless feather embroidered dress from the fall haute couture collection by Valentino. The dress is a super cute look for a winter red carpet and is perfectly accessorised with gold Christian Louboutin sandals and a Louboutin clutch.
Every now and then a pair of jeans comes along and takes the fashion world by storm. We’ve seen the J Brand Houlihans and the Current/Elliot Captains already this year and now for the festive season we have J Brand’s Agnes.
Already seen on Rihanna, Michelle Trachtenberg and Hilary Duff these are perfect to take you seamlessly from day to night. They have a waxed finish and are stretchy to ensure the optimal snug fit. Team with an oversized jumper for daytime chic and killer heels (love the pop of colour from Michelle’s red pair) in the evening.
The J Brand Agnes Stealths are available right now for £295 from www.the-dressingroom.com
Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban yesterday appeared alongside Oprah Winfrey at the Sydney Opera House for a live taping of The Oprah Show. Other guests taking part in the star studded event included Hugh Jackman, Bon Jovi, Jay Z and Russell Crowe. Nicole appeared in the Australian special wearing an elegant white silk fluted sleeve dress from the resort collection by Prada.
