Miranda Cosgrove is sat firmly on our one to watch fashion radar. For those of you out of the loop she is the young star of tweenie programmes; iCarly and Drake and Josh. Much in demand, the 17 year old starlet commands one of the highest salaries of child stars on tv ($180,000 an episode….think of all the Louboutins you could buy with that).

This weekend Miranda attended the ET Emmy afterparty in LA. For the event Miranda chose a cute black strapless dress from the resort collection of red carpet favourites Marchesa. Miranda must have Marchesa on her speed dial as she was spotted in another resort design just last week for the Creative Arts Emmys.

And let’s not forget Miranda has a penchant for the critically acclaimed fall collection from Versus (as seen on Cheryl Cole and Kristen Stewart) wearing two designs; in black for the premiere of Despicable Me and a red for the MTV Movie Awards earlier this year.

Some dresses have an almost magnetic appeal to the female celebrity, think Roland Mouret’s Galaxy or Herve Leger’s bandage dresses. The latest number to hit the celebrity circuit is Alexander McQueen’s angular shouldered crepe dress.

First seen in purple on the Spice Girl’s Emma Bunton. Then the sultry actress Salma Hayek chose the very same number for an appearance on David Letterman and than just this weekend Anna Paquin chose a black version for an Emmys afterparty!

What’s not to love about this little number? Capped shoulders to compliment arms, a v-neck to show off a bust and wrap detailing to emphasise waist and minimise hips. The purple version is available to buy right now at Net-a-porter and will set you back £1,245.

Is it just me or has it become impossible to sort Taylor Momsen from her on-screen counterpart Jenny Humphrey? Granted Jenny doesn’t often strut around in suspenders (and that’s just daywear) but the underlying grunge rocker aesthetic is still there.

Yesterday Taylor was spotted on set in New York filming for the new season of Gossip Girl. Her wardrobe? An Emilio Pucci asymmetric dress teamed with Dr Martens. The dress was one of the showstoppers at Pucci’s fall show and whilst maybe a little unconventionally accessorized compared to the Loubies and Trib 2s these designs are normally paired with, the look sort of works!

It was a successful night for the attendees of the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards. Unlike many a red carpet occasion, fashion disasters were few and far between.

That doesn’t mean the Emmy’s didn’t leave their mark, a definite shift in the fashion thinking could be observed; where this year the mood has been all about the romance (floaty, feminine and frilled), for the Emmy’s…. it’s all gone a little bit dark.

Our best dressed star of the night demonstrates this new aesthetic perfectly. Glee’s Lea Michele brought the drama in a midnight blue fishtail Oscar De La Renta gown. Whilst her castmate Jayma Mays wowed in a deep blue strapless Burberry Prorsum gown. Honourable mention goes to Mad Men’s January Jones who looked sensational in an azule blue voluminous Atelier Versace gown.

Onto the fashion fails. The Hill’s ladies did not fair well. Lo Bosworth looked double her age and weight(not to mention under-dressed) in a green Karen Caldwell shift dress. Stephanie Pratt either didn’t read the invite properly or the Emmy’s was just the first stop on her way to a nightclub because she chose a sixties style Naven mini dress. Finally Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara chose an embellished Carolina Herrera gown in the worst shade of yellow imaginable.

Kim Kardashian walked the red carpet this week (is she ever off it?) for the LA Confidential Magazine’s Emmy Kick-Off Celebration. Kim, famous for her love of fashion, debuted a forward look. A champagne dress by British designer Hannah Marshall.

Kim paired the dress with a Gianfranco Ferre waist belt and Christian Louboutin sandals. This dress has graced our screens before courtesy of The Hill’s star Kristin Cavallari. Kristin wore the dress to the NewNowNext Awards in June.

So who rocked the design better? The addition of a belt on Kim’s version is a nice touch. However, Kristin edges it, the directional box-shape of the dress has much more of an impact on Kristin.

Star of  MTV’s The City and aspiring fashion designer, Whitney Port was spotted yesterday making her way to the Kiss for a Cause charity event in LA. The reality tv star looked chic in a white embellished shoulder shift dress by Camilla and Marc paired with Jimmy Choo sandals. The only fault with this look; Whitney’s bean poles masquerading as legs.

Anna Paquin attended the Entertainment Weekly and Women In Film Pre-Emmy party last night in LA. The newly married True Blood star looked loved up as she posed alongside husband and co-star Stephen Moyer.

For the event Anna chose a red asymmetric dress from the fall collection at Preen. She teamed the dress with black pumps. Red dresses are a popular item on celebrity shopping lists right now and are a fail safe way to ensure the camera clicks are in your direction.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this Preen dress. Scarlett Johansson chose to wear a yellow version of the design at the Spike TV awards earlier this year. Scarlett’s version of the dress is available to buy now at Net-a-porter for £670.

Who has the edge in this pretty Preen number? Great dress in fab colours, we’ll call it a draw.

This weekend celebrities from our favourite TV shows will descend on the red carpet for the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards.  Up for awards include members of the cast of Glee, Mad Men, Lost and many more. What we’ll really be looking for however is not the recipients of the awards, rather who fares well in the fashion stakes.

So with that in mind a quick recap of last years best and worst looks. Leighton Meester stunned in a white Bottega Veneta gown. Cat Deeley chose a one shouldered nude Alberta Ferretti gown. Hayden Panettiere wore a showstopping red J.Mendel gown. Finally Drew Barrymore channelled the fairytale princess look in Monique Lhuillier.

On the worst dressed list; Blake Lively let it all hang out in a red Versace gown whilst Jessica Lowndes got it sooo wrong in Dolce and Gabbana.

Fresh out of rehab, Lindsay Lohan was spotted out and about in Santa Monica yesterday. The troubled starlet looked fresh and healthy as she navigated the swarms of paparazzi.

Lindsay debuted a chic look in this season’s monochrome palette with a white tank and black skirt combo, she teamed the look with black Derek Lam heels and an elegant black Hermes Birkin bag.
