When you hear the name Chopard you instantly think of riches and glamour, so when they threw a party for their 150th year it was always going to be a fabulous event. In New York last night, our favourite A-listers all came out dressed in their finest with a fair helping of Chopard jewels of course.
Gwyneth Paltrow has never been far from the spotlight these last few weeks. She chose a floor length lace number by Antonio Berardi for the event. On the runway this dress was shown as sheer but Gwyneth has chosen a much classier look!
Claire Danes went for a draped Grecian look by Lanvin which we love, one of the better looks to come from Lanvin’s spring collection. Kate Hudson arrived in a dark purple bow detail dress by newcomer Alber Elbaz.Christina Ricci wore a floor length emerald green dress that is just slightly too light of a shade and is rather unshapely on Christina’s small frame.
Also in attendance was Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman who wore a white feather detail dress from her spring collection. The dress has also been worn by Camilla Belle and Katy Perry however Georgina’s invisible pregnancy gives the dress a new niche!
Isabel Marant is the French label that is sometimes described as fashions best kept secret. French designer Isabel Marant is by no means a newcomer with collections designed from way back in the nineties. It is only with her last few seasons however that Isabel Marant has created a buzz worldwide with her chic designs.
How to described Marant’s style? It’s the Sienna/Nicole hippy chic look mixed in with the polished glamour of Blair Waldorf. Isabel Marant has always been the go to label for the Parisian set who desired Marant’s bohemian vibe designs masterfully crafted into garments that are not only elegant but also stylish.
Originally an accessories designer this has been where Marant’s designs have hit the headlines. A couple of seasons worth of highly covetable boots in limited supply sent fashionistas a little crazy in the hunt for their fix. Since then the label has gone from strength to strength with A-listers such as Jennifer Connelly, Halle Berry and Zoe Saldana choosing Isabel Marant where a more casual glam look is needed.
Luckily for us there is no need to hunt so far with net-a-porter.com now stocking the collection.
Two showbiz events, two A-list celebrities and two high fashion style choices. Last night Jennifer Lopez flew over to the UK for the premiere of her new film ‘The Back Up Plan.’ Leicester square was the venue where hundreds of fans turned out to get a glimpse of their favourite Latina diva.
Jennifer Lopez went for a highly glam look as is characteristic of her style. A dress by Lanvin from their spring collection which does inspire mixed reactions. The asymmetric dresses in their puffball appearance can be overpowering, however Jennifer has cinched in her tiny waist and included statement jewelry (also by Lanvin) that allow her to carry this look.
Across the pond Gwyneth Paltrow made an appearance at the Bent on Learning Benefit in New York. The leggy actress showed off her best assets in a metallic dress by Victoria Beckham. Gwyneth manages to add a cool edge to the classical elegant nature of Victoria’s designs with a leather jacket by Rick Owens and strappy gladiator sandals. It is the second appearance in as many days by Gwyneth in a Victoria Beckham dress only cementing Beckham’s status as a designer with real credentials.
The Tribeca film festival in New York has attracted a host of stars all showing off their latest movies. The latest names to walk the red carpet were Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba for new film ‘The Killer Inside Me’.
Kate Hudson arrived in a black and white poncho from Louis Vuitton. The look must have seemed ok before she left or else her stylist Rachel Zoe is having an off day but on the red carpet it looks like a garish beach towel wrapped round her shoulders. All was not lost however as once inside Kate took off the beach towel to reveal a chic little black dress also by Louis Vuitton.
Where Kate had gone for timeless elegance Jessica Alba went for a hippy chic look. Look the epitome of boho charm in a sheer white maxi dress by Chloe and sandals by Marni. This type of relaxed dressing looks great on Jessica but red carpet means glam and this look is not.
La Redoute, otherwise known as the super cool French clothing brand have a fabulous fashion treat for its customers. Following past collaborations with the likes of Christian Lacroix and Sonia Rykiel the brand have persuaded Serge Cajfinger’s brand Paule Ka to come on board for spring/summer 2010.
The collection is inspired by the enduring style of Jackie O (a very laudable icon in Lady Glamourazzi’s books) with simple yet classically elegant designs. If that wasn’t enough to sell it to you they’ve even got superstar model Agyness Deyn fronting the campaign.
Here are Lady Glamourazzi’s favourite pieces:
This white strappy dress with black belt detail is perfectly on trend, with its big button details and monochrome palette there is a clear nautical feel with a touch of fifties glamour. Paule Ka Strappy Dress £99
This sleeveless dress conjures up real Jackie O images, in the simple but very flattering shift dress shape a fabulous buy that will work in the office or out in the evening. Paule Ka Sleeveless Dress £95
Finally to finish off your look you do of course need a pair of oversized black sunglasses. Here is the perfect pair. Paule Ka Sunglasses £60
The world premiere of Iron Man 2 was held yesterday in Hollywood. The blockbuster film stars two of the hottest actresses of the day, Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson. In the style stakes the premiere was eagerly anticipated, what would the film’s stars wear…….?
Gwyneth Paltrow went for an elegant look in this season’s hottest trend of chic shorts paired with a blazer all in white. The look came courtesy of Giorgio Armani. Gwyneth added an edgy vibe to her look with black sandals and a clutch.
Co-star Scarlett Johansson went for a pretty look in an asymmetric sculptured dress by Armani Prive paired with sparkly silver stilettos and a clutch.
When Emma Watson first stepped on our screens as the awkward, ugly duckling (sorry Emma) Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone no-one could predict her meteoric rise to fame in the fashion world.
It is never easy for child stars to transition into an adult especially in the fashions stakes, it is therefore no wonder that with the poise and elegance Emma showed on red carpets in outfit after outfit of fashion gold that she has fulfilled this so seamlessly. Now the face of legendary British brand Burberry, Emma is firmly on our fashion radar.
Lady Glamourazzi looks back on her fashion choices.
In Burberry (above) at the Burberry and Vanity Fair portraits exhibition, now as the face of the brand she is never far from a Christopher Bailey creation. In a white strapless number by Burberry again at the Empire Film Awards.
To the 2009 BAFTAs she wore a floor length black gown by Temperely London. Before showcasing an edgier look for the Tale of Despereux premiere in a sheer blue dress by William Tempest.
The cooler, sexier look continued at the US Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince premiere where she wore this leather topped creation by US designer Proenza Schouler dress. Finally Emma showed a softer side at the London premiere of Harry Potter in this vintage Ossie Clark creation.
Osman Yousefezada is the designer whose name is uttered not just in fashion circles but in the political elite. British designer Osman is having a moment, with the news that Sarah Brown had commissioned four outfits from the designer in the run-up to the election he has become the designer du jour.
Osman began his fashion career at an exceedingly young age, with an Afghan mother with a dress making business it seemed designing was in his blood. Despite an early foray into fashion Osman tried a host of other options including completing a masters at Cambridge before finally making the leap into the fashion industry. After working at Joseph for a brief period he showed his first collection which was quickly snapped up by Selfridges and Osman has not looked back since.
Now his designs can be seen on range of public figures including Sarah Brown as seen above at the Elle Style Awards, Anna Friel and Mischa Barton (yes that is the same dress as Sarah’s). In addition he has dressed Danni Minogue for the X-Factor…..surely there is no better stage for ones designs, except for perhaps an election campaign!
Why are his designs so popular? The key features of Osman’s collections are the masterful use of cut and drape techniques. Through his expertise he is able to create a collection that is not only elegant and beautiful but appropriate for a range of ages and figures.
Osman is available at Browns, Selfridges and Matches.
On the press trails for Iron Man 2 Gwyneth Paltrow stepped out in a grey dress by Victoria Beckham. The pencil dress is from Victoria Beckham’s spring 2010 collection. The celebrity designer is fast becoming one of the most frequently mentioned names in red carpet attire.
Also on the publicity train for Iron Man 2 co-star Scarlett Johansson. Gwyneth and Scarlett perhaps didn’t check what colour the other would be wearing as both arrived in grey dresses. Scarlett’s chic shift dress is from RM by Roland Mouret.
The stars were out in force in Hollywood last night taking to the black carpet for US Weekly’s Hot Hollywood Style party. So a party celebrating style one would think our favourite stars would pull out all the stops…..unfortunately not.
Jennifer Lopez who was awarded US weekly’s style icon of the decade was the only guest who actually came through in the style stakes. Dressed in a shimmery gold dress by Georges Chakra couture from the spring 2010 collection the singer/actress stole the show.
Less successful on the fashion front was Twilight Saga actress Anna Kendrick who went for a blue patterned dress by Pucci teamed with Sergio Rossi heels. Unfortunately the lizard print does not make for an attractive dress and the shape does nothing for Anna, drowning her!
Singer Ciara made a very common fashion faux pas letting it all hang out in her yellow print dress from Versace’s spring 2010 collection teamed with Versace heels. Remember the rule Ciara, legs or cleavage, never both and never ever both to this extent.
British singer Kelly Osbourne chose a design by Jeremy Scott. A chic little black dress, or so we thought until we saw the back………
It wasn’t all a disaster, Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale in the Twilight Saga) looked great in a pink and black dress by Jay Godfrey.
